Tripling the size of our flower farm
This month, saw us get the first phase of our flower farm expansion underway.
For the last year or so, we’ve been farming on about 1/5 acre. We do everything ourselves. Preparing the soil, sowing the seeds, taking care of the plants, and cutting and conditioning the flowers.
A trial season in 2023
2023 was our trial season We tested whether we could keep up production, as sustainably as possible, for a full season, and grow and harvest consistently high quality flowers. Alongside our full time jobs, we refined our growing plans and methods, tested different plant varieties, and worked out how we could get even more regenerative.
Things were certainly not perfect. We had, and continue to have, issues and failures, but we love the learning experience and have made most things work well.
Developing a viable business
This year we’re tripling the size of the flower farm and seeing if we can turn it into a viable business. We have roughly six x 1m x 25m beds already. Last weekend, we put in another three, and we have ten more to add over the next couple of months.
